Welfare Wednesday
Welcome back to women’s health month! Tomorrow is also world mental health day so this week is a combination of both…
Social media - Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and many more all have a huge impact on women’s mental health.
Social media platforms often feature images of people with ‘perfect’ faces and bodies, however these are often pictures that have been filtered and edited to enhance appearance. As a result this can cause women to create unrealistic beauty standards and lead to body dissatisfaction and low self esteem.
Social media can cause a toxic culture of comparison and competition, many people will post their best photos, however this isn’t necessarily representative of their everyday appearance or lifestyle.
Although it is women’s health month it is important to note that this can impact both men and women.
World mental health day helps us to raise awareness for a future where everyone can receive quality mental health care at any point in their lives.
If you or someone you know is struggling please reach out to the welfare team or visit Mind mental health to seek support.
Remember - what you see on social media is snapshot of one moment in time 📸
