Welfare Wednesday
Welcome to May 🌻 This month we are focusing on the different types of eating disorders and body image…
Eating disorders are often invisible. They are mental illnesses, they don’t look a certain way and you do not have to be underweight to have an eating disorder.
So let’s look at ARFID: Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder
This involves a person avoiding certain foods or certain types of foods, as with any eating disorder it is very complex and there are lots of things that can cause ARFID
🔸Being sensitive to food tastes, textures or smells
🔸A distressing or painful experience with food
🔸 Anxiety around the consequences of eating food
🔸 Not recognising when they’re hungry, or just not being interested in eating
🔸 Much much more.
If you think you or someone you know might have ARFID there is help available though your GP, Mind or Beat eating disorders 📞
