Welfare Wednesday
Continuing with our theme of summer running (even though it feels like autumn!) this week we are looking at sun protection.
You may or may not be aware of the diminished ozone layer - this acts as a natural sun blocker, filtering out the more harmful UV rays. It is possibly even more important to be aware of this in Britain where the sun often isn’t that hot.
The reduced ozone layer means that even if the sun doesn't feel that hot it is still necessary to have some protection, especially if you are out running. Of course if you are going abroad to sunnier climates, it is impotent to make sure you have adequate sun protection.
So, what can you do to protect yourself❓
☀️ Wear a running cap or visor - protecting your head is a key factor to avoiding sunstroke
☀️ Sunglasses - protection against the sun, wind and insects. Studies show that squinting during a run can have a negative impact on your speed
☀️ Replace fluids - top tips on hydration available on our website
☀️ Running top - consider wearing a t-shirt rather than a vest and ensure it can wick the moisture away to keep you cool
☀️ Suncream - ensure you apply a good quality suncream, especially on your ears and the backs of your knees as these are areas that are likely to burn when running
Enjoy the sunshine (when it comes back!!)
