What’s coming up in quarter 2…….?
Try a new group club run!
Why not start out the Spring quarter by setting yourself a new challenge. We know that lots of our members are nervous about moving up a colour group, so we decided to dedicate the evening of April 9th to just that. If you’re feeling up to it, SPOND into the group above your usual group. The focus that night is for the run leader to support you in the group above the one your normally run in so you can try it out. You will definitely surprise yourself!
Track sessions (25th April, 30th May, 27th June)
Brand new for FTRC-our monthly track session at the Aldershot Garrison sports centre. This sort of session is incredibly valuable if you want to boost your speed and endurance or even if you just want to have a great time at training. Come on down and help us to shape these sessions going forward.
Destination Run Coaching sessions
In addition to our track sessions, we can also offer you a number of coaching session with the boys from Destination Run Coaching. These sessions vary but typically involve a series of short intervals on either road or trail. Sometimes they mix it up with hills or the much loved relay sessions but it’s always a rewarding workout! Check out SPOND for dates and locations.
Club social away runs (30th April and 18th June)
Do you fancy a change of scenery? With lighter nights we can venture further afield and explore some new routes. In April we will go to our well loved Shepherd and Flock pub for our usual evening of running (did someone say we can hit the trails now?!) and in June we will celebrate Pride month with our colourful Pride run from Farnham Park. After your run you will be able to tuck into some delicious food if you wish!
Spring marathon season
This quarter will also see the arrival of the Spring marathon season. With so many to chose from, it will feel like someone is running a marathon nearly every weekend! This year we are really excited to have a number of our members taking part in both the London and the Manchester marathons on the 27th April. They’ve been training hard through the winter and soon it will be time for them to shine! Show them your support in the next few weeks, and let us know if you’re taking on a different Spring marathon?
Woodland Woggle (Sunday 11th May)
A beautiful 10k race in the Surrey/Hampshire countryside and a highlight of many people’s race calendars. This year we have at least 30 members taking part all keen just to enjoy the stunning scenery and the time spent with each other. Last year, it was one of the first really great days of Summer-what will this year bring?
Hampshire Road Race League events
Is teamwork more your style? Several of our members love taking part in the HRRL races and earning points for the FTRC team. This quarter the events include:
Salisbury 10 miles (April 6th)
Alton 10 miles (11th May)
Netley 10k (18th May)
Alresford 10k (15th June)
Yateley 10k series
June will see the start of the Yateley 10k series. With one race a month, for 3 months (you don’t have to do all 3) you can set yourself a challenge do better your time, or enjoy yourself more? They usually promise lovely summer weather and a great weeknight race experience. This year they’ve even updated the route with a new start and finish location! The medals also have a theme-in 2023 they connected together!
Elstead marathon (not a marathon) TBC
If you want to tell people that you have taken part in a marathon without actually covering 26.2 miles-then this is the event for you. A 5k or 10kish route through Elstead in some glorious summer evening sun-what could be better? Finishing in on the village green where they go all out with a festival vibe of BBQ’s, beers and even a tug of war competition. Our FTRC members had an awesome time last year and we hope to see a repat of it again in 2025!
Endure 24 (7th-8th June)
It’s not June with a visit to Wasing Park to take part in Endure 24! This is the 5th year FTRC has attended and it has become quite the staple in our running calendars. We have teams, solos and pairs all doing their best to keep moving around the 8km loop throughout the 24 hour period. With camping, onsite music and catering and the mythical fairy woods, this event often feels more like a running retreat than a race. So long as you run at least 1 lap you earn yourself a medal, but our club record is 12 laps! This year we are hoping to get as many members to camp the night before to really extend the festival vibes. If you’re interested, let us know and we can try and find you a team to join!
Get Farnham Moving (29th June)
Brand new, and to celebrate 5 years of FTRC, we are putting on our own event in Farnham Park. We will be paring up with local businesses, health clubs and sports clubs to try and promote the health and well-being of residents of Farnham and it’s local area. It promises to be a fantastic event and if you’re free we would love for you to support us. Save the date for now and more information will follow shortly…..!
