London Marathon 2025 - Training Blog #3

7 weeks done – 11 weeks to go.

When the training kicks in there are always things that go well and things you know you should do more. I never drink enough water, do enough stretching and then there is my roller.

We have been in a relationship for about five years. It’s a bit of a love/hurt relationship to be honest. She tells me that she is good for me, but she always hurts me.

She sits in the corner of my home gym looking at me and I just stare back. Yes I know, stop looking at me that way.

Apparently you can get more strength from having supple and stretched muscles. She told me that and so did google.

After a really positive start to marathon training in January, it’s time to really get into February. Increased core work has paid off in January, but it has made the hamstrings, glutes and lower back a little tighter. This is where little miss roller comes in apparently.

Yes, I am guilty of doing just the training, but it is apparent the roller and a more disciplined approach drinking a minimum 2 litres of water a day are important this month. Peroni is apparently 80% water. (Other beers available also have water).

So training this month consists of 6 days training and 1 rest day each week.

Increasing the distances and focus on different sessions like interval.

Kit and I enjoy going to a sports resort in Lanzarote called Club La Santa. It’s our happy place. This blog is coming to you from 35,000 feet up on the way there. Did I mention it is 22 degrees Celsius this week.

It’s a fantastic place for training and this week I am hoping to really push it on with training every day and no work distractions. The great thing about this resort is you can do sports you don’t usually do. If you haven’t been, check it out as it is a wonderful family holiday. Morning agenda is to destroy myself training and afternoon collapse around a pool/bar.

Well done to all those friends who completed the Farnborough Half Marathon too!

Oh and Club La Santa has way too many rollers………………….
