Welfare Wednesday

A new week, a new opportunity!

This week we are shining a light on Veganuary, This is another 31 day challenge which encourages you to follow a vegan lifestyle.

If you are already taking part, amazing work, you are doing brilliantly. If not, why not? It is never to late to start, you're just 31 days away from a new outlook or habit.

Take a read and find out more about Veganuary...

Why try Veganuary as a runner?

“You have heard the dietary myth: in order to succeed as a runner you supposedly need to maximise your intake of milk as well as protein packed meats. However contrary to popular belief milk can actually harm your bones rather than helping them (try soy or almond milk instead), and there are many protein options that lack the artery clogging fats of beef or pork (try nuts, tofu and legumes)”

I would also suggest looking up why eating chickens, eggs and fish is bad for you too.

What is Veganuary?

An annual challenge which educates about a vegan lifestyle and encourages you to sign up for a month and then reflect on what you learned. You can sign up at any time of year and you will get daily emails for the month with nutritional information, recipes and meal plans.

Why do people try Veganuary?

Animal Suffering - watch ‘Dairy Is Scary’, ‘Cracked’ by Viva! and ‘Earthlings’.

Environment - watch ‘Eating Our Way To Extinction’, ‘Milked’ and ‘Cowspiracy’.

Health - watch 'Game Changers’, ‘What The Health’ and ‘Forks Over Knives’.

Most of these and more documentaries can be found on plant power.org.uk

Knowledge is power! Give it a go!

I hope this information encourages you to learn and as a vegan educator and food scientist I am happy to answer any personal or group questions.
