Keeping your heart healthy means adopting a range of different lifestyle habits, not only do these keep your heart healthy day to day, it also helps to reduce your risk of developing any heart problems in the future.
So, what can you do to help yourself❓
🥦 Eat a balanced diet - you don’t need to cut any food out or go hungry but it’s a good idea to avoid foods which are higher in fat, salt and sugar. Food packaging will always have guidance on this too.
⚖️ Manage your weight - carrying a little extra weight may not seem like a problem but it could be putting your healthy at risk. Being overweight can lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes.
🚭 Quit smoking - giving up smoking is classed as the best thing you can do for your health. Just 20 minutes after quitting smoking your blood pressure and heart rate will return to normal.
🍻 Cut down on alcohol - try and stay within the guidelines: 14 units a week maximum and aim for one alcohol free day a week.
🏃🏻♂️ Exercise - being physically active is important for protecting your heart, manages your cholesterol levels, blood pressure and weight.
